These little lovelies go by many names. I have seen them masquerading around as Chocolate Revel Bars. I have seen them with peanut butter. This recipe however, is pure unadulterated chocolate bliss. Years ago, a friend of mine brought these to a women’s retreat that I attended. We polished them off in record time and all of us begged for the recipe. Here is her version:

2. Ingredients for Oatmeal Fudge Bars

  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 2½ cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1½ cups oatmeal
  • 1 14oz can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • 2 tsp vanilla

3. Directions:

  1. Cream butter and brown sugar.
  2. Add eggs and vanilla.
  3. Sift flour, baking soda and salt; add to creamed mixture.
  4. Mix in oatmeal (at this point, mixture is really stiff).
  5. In a saucepan, mix milk, chocolate chips and butter.
  6. Stir over medium heat until melted.
  7. Remove from heat and add vanilla. (at this point, some people add chopped nuts).
  8. Spread ⅔ of the oatmeal mixture into a greased 9 X 13 pan.
  9. Spread chocolate mixture on top.
  10. Drop remaining cookie mixture on top of chocolate.
  11. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.
  12. Cool, then cut into bars.
